How can I help this baby squirrel with a broken leg?
We found a baby squirrel with one broken leg in the back on our front lawn. Surprisingly he still gets around by dragging his back end using strictly upper body strength (and his other working leg). How can I help it? Will it naturally heal if it stays off the leg? It follows my dad around... So should we capture it and nurse it back to health? Take it to the animal rescue league/vet? Have it put down? Help?
You must immobilize the broken leg. Try using a Popsicle stick and tape to keep the broken leg from moving. If the baby squirrel is weaned you can feed it sunflower seeds the leg will take a good 6 weeks for the broken leg to set.
